Hello,
after using the analogue output of the Raspberry for a while with Pimusicbox, I received the Hifiberry DAC today. Unfortunately I didn't get it to work.
First I removed the bcm2835 from /etc/modules because I had the same problem as Alexander http://www.hifiberry.com/forums/topic/no-sound-2/
Now 'aplay -l' shows
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: sndrpihifiberry [snd_rpi_hifiberry_dac], device 0: HifiBerry DAC HiFi pcm5102a-hifi-0 []
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
I have still no sound and appreciate any help.
Regards

HiFiBerry team Dear Stefan,
please check first if the hardware works correctly. The easiest way is using our test image from here:
http://www.hifiberry.com/guides/sd-card-images/
This helps to identify if it is a hardware problem (usually the soldering on P5) or a configuration issue.

Stefan I boot the Raspbery with the image, but I can't hear a testsound. I double-checked the cables and the amplifier.

Stefan As it turnes out the Raspberry crashes with the testone image as well as with the pimusicbox image. But only when the hifiberry dac is mounted. Before that I had no issues with that.

HiFiBerry team What do you mean by "it crashes"? Does it boot and stops working later?
I recommend checking the solder connections on P5. Maybe there is a shortage between some of these pins.

Stefan > What do you mean by “it crashes”? Does it boot and stops working later?
Yes, it does boot and after a while the system stops. Sometimes earlier, sometimes later.
> I recommend checking the solder connections on P5.
I've checked the P5 area of the Raspberry with a magifier and it looks good. But I am not an expert in that.

HiFiBerry team Hi Stefan,
if it works first, but crashes after a while, the power supply could be the problem. What power supply are you using? Do you have another one to test?
Best regards
Daniel -
Stefan Hi Daniel!
> What power supply are you using?
A 5V/1200mA No Name power supply.
> Do you have another one to test?
I've tried the one from my Nexus Tablet with 2000mA output.
The problems are the same, no test sound and the system crashes after a while.

HiFiBerry team Hi Stefan,
there is no sound even before it crashes? Do you have another Raspberry Pi available? We've heard from some people were the traces to the P5 header was broken.
Otherwise you have to send the unit in to us and we will check it here.

Stefan Hi Daniel,
> there is no sound even before it crashes?
I haven't heared any sound from the DAC yet.
After unmounting the hifiberry DAC and turning back to analogue the Pimusicbox works as before. So its not an issue with my setting in terms of cables, amplifier or speakers.
> Otherwise you have to send the unit in to us and we will check it here.
Unfortunately I do not have a second Raspberry. Anything I need to know relating the customs declaration?

HiFiBerry team Hi Stefan,
please declare it as "defective return" with a value of €10. If the DAC is defective, we will refund your shipping costs.

HiFiBerry team Hi Stefan,
we received the HiFiBerry DAC return. It works well, however the male header that you also returned looks clean. Didn't you solder the connector onto the Raspberry Pi? The P5 connectors need to by soldered onto the Raspberry Pi as described shown here:

Stefan Hi Daniel, did you send the DAC back to me?

HiFiBerry team Hi Stefan,
we were still waiting for your feedback. Should we send it back now?
Best regards
Daniel -
Stefan If it works when I solder it, then yes, please send it back to me.

Stefan Hi Daniel, did you send the Hifiberry DAC back to me? I'm still waiting.
