Hi,
I need much more basic help than Alexander's "Getting started with Volumio-Beta1.2 and HiFiBerry Digi".
I followed the instructions on the Volumio website for installing Volumio on and SD Card, but I'm not sure I've been successful. I posted a screen grab of how the SD Card looks in the finder when attached to my iMac over on the Volumio forum, but nobody has come foreword to help or comment. I would post it here, but I don't see a way to post an attachment.
I have now attached my HiFiBerry Digi to the Pi and connected it to the network, but when I type volume.local in my browser window nothing happens. Help would be much appreciated. You might want to check the image I posted on the Volumio forum.
Thanks in advance.

HiFiBerry team Do you connect via Ethernet or WiFi? WiFi won't work out-of-the box, because you have to configure it first.
Try http://volumio , maybe this works. -
Ifor Phillips It's connected by ethernet over mains, but i'm getting nowhere. http://volumio does't work either. Any other ideas? -
HiFiBerry team Best way is to check your DHCP server (most likely your internet router) and see, if the Raspberry got an IP address. Then try it with the IP address.
Best regards

Ifor Phillips Hi Daniel, the DHCP distribution is by AirPort Extreme, not the router. I'm not sure what to do. -
Ifor Phillips I think I've made some progress. I've reflashed the card using Pi Filler rather than Pi Writer and the TV screens offerings look more promising. The command prompt is flashing and a little above it is says "volumio" in big friendly letters. I have even seen an IP address. Unfortunately neither the IP address nor http://Volumio.local will load anything in my browser.
i don't know whether it's significant or not, but one bit of text on the TV reads: ping statistics ---
1 packets transmitted, 0 received, +1 errors. 100% packet loss, time 0ms -
Ifor Phillips An update! With several cards I have still failed to more than occasionally get an IP address and even when I get one I can't access Volumio.local. I've since booted the Pi with Rasbian and Squeezeplug and the IP address is stable. My conclusion is that there is a problem with volumio 1.2beta, but everyone else seems to get on with it. Confused! -
HiFiBerry team Do you use WLAN? I has these issues with WLAN. Sometimes it takes to long to connect to the network.
Best regards

Ifor Phillips Hi Daniel,
I don't even understand you question. :-)
I have now tried Volumio 1.1beta instead of 1.2beta and now I can access Volumio on the Pi.
My new problem is that I don't understand how to configure Volumio to access the music stored on a HDD attached to my iMac on the same network.
I know the iMac's IP address and I know where there music files are located, but I don't know how to point Volumio at them.
Unfortunately the Volumio website isn't very informative, but if you, or anyone else here, can give me some guidance I would be very grateful. -
HiFiBerry team Hi,
there is a new Volumio 1.3beta
http://sourceforge.net/projects/volumio/files/Raspberry%20PI/Beta1.3/
Maybe, this works better.
Best regards

Ifor Phillips Thanks Daniel. I can access Volumio.local using the 1.3beta and the 1.1beta, but not the 1.2beta.
I'm still having trouble mounting the shares. This is what I have entered in the web GUI:
Source name: XLD (being one of the music holding folders on the Drobo)
File share protocol: SMB/CIFS (I don't know whether or not this is correct, but the iMac says it connected to at smb://10.x.x.xxx)
IP address: 10.x.x.xxx (being the IP address of the iMac)
Remote directory: Drobo/XLD (Drobo being the name of the external HDD connected to the iMac)
User name: myusername
Password: mypassword
Having saved this the GUI tells me that it is updating the database, but it also has a little red cross and states:
Last system mount error
mount: Operation not supported
I have checked the permissions and it is not read-only. Any ideas?
I will ask over at Volumio also, but answers do not flow well over there.
