Hello,
I received my Hifiberry Rev 1.4 yesterday. I soldered correctly componants and P5 header. I tested good continuity and short circuit with a multimeter.
I start with Rapsperry Rev B + Volumio 1.0 Beta and enable I2S drivers. After rebooting, I see this log:
bcm2708-dmaengine bcm2708-dmaengine: BCM2708 DMA engine driver
snd-rpi-pcm5102a snd-rpi-pcm5102a.0: pcm5102a-hifi <-> bcm2708-i2s.0 mapping ok
Everything is OK, but I hear nothing. What is the problem?
Thank you for your help.

HiFiBerry team What does aplay -l output?
Do you have a multimeter available?
Can you send me a picture of your DAC from the top and bottom?
Best regards
Daniel -
Jeje D. DAC is recognized correctly :
root@volumio:~# aplay -l

HiFiBerry team Hi,
soldering looks ok. I can't see any problems.
Please measure the voltage between the "-" pin of P3 and each of the Pins between C10 and C12.
If we can't see a problem there, please send the DAC back to us for inspection/repair.
Best regards

Frank Scheffler I have the very same problem, what voltages do you expect to be measured? Mine are 3.3V each, in case I located the connectors correctly. My cards is also recognized both by /proc/asound/cards and VolumioBeta1. But no sound at all is arriving at my Amp. Not even a click or noise, when I turn on/off the PI. Any suggestions? -
Jeje D. I soldered a P1 header on DAC for more stability. I measured voltage on C12 an C10 (see new picture in my Dropbox share https://www.dropbox.com/sh/tir3fnn6tylbiyj/auQbl5v_zo#/) :
+ of C12 -> 5V
- of C12 -> 0V
+ of C10 -> 3,3V
- of C10 -> 0V
This measures are good? -
HiFiBerry team Hi,
the voltages look good so far. To find out what's wrong, we have to check the device here. Please send it back to us, we will check it.

Jeje D. Hi,
I sent yesterday hifiberry by standard mail. I await your news. -
HiFiBerry team @djeje: The replacement is on the way to you. -
Frank Scheffler My voltages are exactly the same, as described by dieje, still I don't get any sound. I am using a P5-header only.
I will send back the device this week, so you can check on that. How do we deal with shipping costs? Shipping back from Germany to Switzerland is about 12,90€, untracked. -
HiFiBerry team Hi Frank,
we will refund the shipping costs back to us. Please send it just as a letter. The "Grossbrief" from Deutsche Post should be ok for the DAC.
I will send you a replacement tomorrow.
Best regards
Daniel -
Frank Scheffler OK, I will check on that. Is there anything to care about customs (Zoll), when sending back? I would just use your envelope with the customs declaration still on it. -
HiFiBerry team That's ok. Your new DAC is already on the way to you. -
Frank Scheffler That's fast. Did you get my address based on my e-mail, because I did register after I experienced those problems?
Did send back the pure DAC or does that include the connectors and RCA jacks? Not sure, if I should unsolder the jacks, which may be a little difficult, since I am not well prepared for unsoldering.
Thanks for the tip on "Grossbrief", I will have a look at that on the weekend, so bare with me, if it's going to be returned next week. -
HiFiBerry team Hi,
I sent the DAC with all the connectors. I found your order based on the email address. No need to rush with the return, next week is no problem.

Paul Forshaw Hi,
I seem to have the same problem. I have tested the voltages and get the same as the posts above. Is there anything else I can check. I did solder the header onto the DAC instead of the PI and the 8 pin female socket on Pi but apart from that I think it is OK.
Regards,
Paul. -
HiFiBerry team Hi Paul,
it's possible that your DAC has a hardware problem. Please send us an email to info@crazy-audio.com.

Frank Scheffler Hi Daniel,
did you receive the DAC which I sent back to you?
Regards,
Frank -
HiFiBerry team Hi Frank,
we received it and tested it today. Problem was a bad solder connection on one of the data connections to the Raspberry. We fixed this for you.

Eric AUGIER Hi,
I seem to have the same problem. No sound on RCA output. Everything seems to be OK on Raspberry.
On I2S connector I have the 3,3V , 5V and the BCK, LRCK and DATA signals.
Beetwen - of P3 and C10 I have 3,3V and 5 V with C12.
My order number : #1738
Could you help me ?
Thank's
Best regards -
HiFiBerry team Hi Eric,
please return it to us, we will check it. Note your order number on the return.

HiFiBerry team Hi Eric,
the address is correct.

Holger Wernecke Hello Daniel,
I have the same problem as some guys here in this thread. I can connect to the pi, search media files with volumio 1.2 and the files are played. But i get no sound. The measured voltage at C10 and C12 is 3V.
Any idea to solve the problem?
Holger -
HiFiBerry team Hi Holger,
check the solder connections on the P5 header on both Raspberry and HiFiBerry. Often it is a contact that is not soldered correctly.
Do you haven an oscilloscope? With it you could check, that the signals are really correct. If not, we have to check it here.
Best regards
Daniel -
Holger Wernecke Ok I will check the solderings on the P5 header. No, I haven't an oscilloscope.
Is it possible to change my displayed account name?
Holger -
HiFiBerry team Hi Holger,
I changed your display name.
With a multimeter, check the connections between the P5 header and the resistors R3-R5. The traces are relatively easy to follow. If you can't find the problem, please send it back, we will check it here.
We have seen, that sometimes soldering the P5 header is a bit problematic. Therefore our board now comes with this header already pre-soldered.
Best regards

Holger Wernecke Hello Daniel,
I checked the connections between the resistors R2,R4 and R5 and P5. R5 has no connection to P5. From R3 I can't check the connection to P5. Probably the strip line is broken when I soldered P5. I wish to send the DAC back to you for a "professional" check.
Thx for your support
Best regards
Holger -
HiFiBerry team Hi Holger,
you can send it back. Another option is to solder a short cable from the pin on the P5 header to the corresponding pin on the I2S header. Can you try this?
Best regards
Daniel -
Holger Wernecke Hello Daniel,
yes I will solder the cable and hope the DAC works fine.
Best regards

Peter Ott Hi Daniel
