I have over the years used several of the HiFiBerry DACs but have now turned to a different brand, connected via USB - and that works just fine.
This DAC displays the bit depth and sample rate and no matter this in the source, the HiFiBerryOS seems to always decimate to 44.1khz/16bit.
Is this a feature with the OS or have I missed a setting somewhere?

I don't understand. You can't use USB DACs with HiFiBerryOS.
Sure you can, this is discussed several times... It's super easy in linux to setup output to USB :-), so the question remains: Is the HiFiBerryOS decimating the audio to 44.1/16 ?
No, but be aware that this modification break with every update and might not work on future releases. There is strictly no support from us for this.
