DSP board is a must!!!!

We have built a new pergola and were looking to upgrade the outdoor audio. I had a pair of Atrium 6 speakers from Polk and wanted an amp and to add Airplay. We have homepods in the house and AppleTV on our main TV so to Airplay was main goal to complete the soundscape After much googling I thought I would try the WiiM amp but I also saw the HiFiBwrry Amp. I had a Pi4 sitting around so I ordered the Amp4. After much consternation and failure I tried HiFiBerryOS 64 and it all suddenly worked. BUT I was very unimpressed with the sound. Not was I was expecting from all I had read. I know outdoor speakers have little low end but this sounded flat and tinny. I hit these forums and decided to try the DSP add on board. It is without a doubt the best purchase you can make. It’s not just about taste it’s about speakers being unique in their strengths (frequencies) and fine tuning to the speaker and the environment. If you are looking at an AMP for your Pi just budget for the DSP board. Could not be happier.
