DAC+DSP suddenly has no output

I have a DAC+DSP that I recently got set up correctly on a RPI 4 with raspberry pi OS. 

I had two raspotify services set up, one to play audio out to a USB dac (and speakers) and one to the hifiberry and a headphone amp.
Today the headphones stopped outputting sound. To troubleshoot I disconnected the RPI and brought it back to my test bench, where I can confirm I get no sound from the RCA out, even when playing directly with mplay.

Aplay output still looks normal

I also tried running toslink in, which I believe used to get forwarded to the RCA out, even when I was struggling to get the DSP set up. No sound.

I also noticed that the toslink out no longer shines red.
Is some part of the card dead? Is there anyway to check the cards' status beyond seeing if it shows up in aplay?

  aplay won't help here as it will show the card even if it is not plugged onto the Pi. If a working system goes silent at some point, the general recommendation is to try a fresh installation on another SD card. Silent SD card corruption can result in all kinds of strange behavior including no sound.

  I made a backup image of the card after I got the setup working some weeks ago. I put that on a new sd and have the same problem. Would that address a possible corruption issue?

  I can't say for sure. If you have another SD card at hand, just write HiFiBerryOS to it, boot this and check if the sound is working.

  Ok, tried flashing another SD card with HiFiBerryOS. I don't have a monitor and keyboard hooked up, but it showed up in Spotify and will show that it's "playing" to the HiFiBerry, but there's no sound.
  
  Also tried doing optical and optical passthrough, but no sound.

  What DSP profile is installed?

  When following the REW setup instructions on github, I had previously installed this:

  https://raw.githubusercontent.com/hifiberry/hifiberry-dsp/master/sample_files/xml/dacdsp-default.xml

  This showed up as "unknown" in hifiberry OS. I just installed Dac+DSP Universal version 14, but there still is no sound.
