Hi, I would like to use the dac+dsp on my raspberry pi 5, running ubuntu but I can't seem to get it to work. I tried with Volumio and the dac works fine. I'm fairly certain i got it working on raspberry pi os also. Could anyone please advise what I need to add to the config.txt? I've tried all the combinations I can think of.

The correct overlay is just
dtoverlay=hifiberry-dac
Hi, thank you for the reply. It's not working for me on the pi5 with ubuntu. Can you suggest where I start troubleshooting. There is nothing in dmesg. Ive tried adding the asound.conf file to /etc and this is on a newly formatted ssd. Could you suggest anywhere else I could look?

I tried a fresh install of ubuntu this morning on sd card, and one thing i noticed was that the dac lit up for about a second on initial boot, however after running apt update it wont light up on boot anymore.
There's definitely something wrong with your configuration. First, you should disable HDMI audio. Then, make sure to have the correct dtoverlay line in config.txt.
ok, thanks, can i just clarify that the correct config.txt location is /boot/firmware/config.txt?
i have previously tried many combinations of uncommenting dtparam=audio=on and adding ,noaudio to dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d as the blog post suggests. is there a specific line to add dtoverlay=hifiberry-dac? because ive just put it right at the bottom of the page.
I'm sorry, but we never used Ubuntu here. I can't really say where it stored its configurations. The configuration guide is for Raspberry Pi OS. In our experience this is the best system to use if you're looking for a general-purpose OS. I'm also not sure how well the Pi5 integration in Ubuntu is at all, as we see a lot of work on this - even on Raspberry Pi OS.
no worries, thanks for all the help, i'll just wait for future updates. i have a plan b audioengine d1 that plugs in the usb and works perfectly, i just preferred to use the optical connection that the dac+dsp provides.
