Hi,

To mitigate problems with volume jumps in-between songs and jumpy volume control from iPhone 

edit /etc/shairport-sync.conf 

add following in "general"

volume_control_profile = "flat";

in "alsa"

disable_standby_mode = "auto";

I run two chained amps and it can be a problem that volume jumps from 0% to 20% in one click. First line solves that problem.

It turns out that ShairportSync goes to sleep in between songs forcing it to send volume info at the start of the song, so if you change volume from the browser it gets reset to iPhone volume.

It would be nice if admin could propagate this changes through github

I know you're all busy with the next release but this would solve some problems.

  We can easily integrate the "disable_standby_mode" change, but the other one needs further testing especially with other sound cards.

  Make it amp specific …
  That default “jumpy” mode is good for headphones, not for 100W speakers

  Or even better expose it as an option in browser app (sources->Airplay … add a dropdown menu)

  Shairport also has loudness option … that might be good to add while you’re there

  We might look into this at some point, but today there are more important things to do - specifically a Pi5 version. Feel free to provide a patch and we'll have a look at it.
