Hi,
What would you recommend for a power supply to configure a setup with 3x Raspberry Pi 3 & 3x Amp3.
Should I use something as a mean well switching power supply 24volt 20Amp?
Thanks

20A will be more than enough. I think, 10A will still be enough. As long as you don't use 8 Ohm speakers, I would also strongly recommend to use only 18V as 24V operating voltage are not needed to reach the full power at 4 Ohm. This will only generate more heat.
So my recommendation would be 18V/10A

Daniel
Hi,
This would be for powering up a few Micca M-8C which Im pretty sure runs on 8 Ohms.
Will this still work out since you say: As long as you don't use 8 Ohm speakers?

Patrick
With 8 Ohm, you can go for 24V/10A. However, with 90db/1W/m you probably won't need anything near 60W, except if you don't have any neighbours ;-) So 18V would still be fine.
Best regards,
Daniel
Oh well, I got a great deal on those.
So, Ill see what I'll be doing. I greatly appreciate your help, this said I dont think I can find 18V/A.
I think my only bet I think is something like this: https://www.amazon.ca/JoyNano-Transformer-Surveillance-Industrial-Automation/dp/B01H53WIW2/ref=sr_1_3?rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1508427003&sr=8-3&keywords=24v+10a
Daniel,
Could you tell me... could one use 12V/20A power supply or it wouldn't be recommended?
Regards,
Patrick
While you won't get the full power at 12V, I guess, it will still be enough. 12V/10A will be ok, you don't need 20A.
Best regards,
Daniel
well, if Im running 3x AMP2 wouldnt that require atlease 360 watt total + what ever the Pi needs?
Also, thanks for the fast replies.
Daniel,
Are you able to tell me whats the power consumption at max usage of the AMP2?
Regards,
Patrick
Hi Patrick,
As Daniel said, it varies by input voltage. One can't make maximum audio output power off of 12VDC no matter how many amps available and at the far end at 24VDC one is making excess heat. Daniel told me the sweet spot is 18 to 19 VDC, one can make maximum audio output power using 18VDC with 3.5 amps. I am going to use a Laptop PS with 19VDC 4A output. Yes P=IE, but the AMP2 and AMP+ are Class D amplifiers, they are not running a Class A duty cycle for power. Daniel explained in another post that an rPi and AMP2 with 18VDC PS needs about 3 to 4 Amps so a 60 to 75W PS is all that is needed for that combination. So 60W times 3 and you're at 180W, get one of the 200W or 225W and I would think you would be fine.
I can't seem to find a large 18VDC with 200ish watts.
Any of you, knows one?
All I manage to find are either 15V or 24volt with that amount of wattage.
Hi Patrick
The Mean Well NES-200-15 looks like the correct ticket for you. It is about $36 and you will need a DMM to adjust the 15VDC output up to 18 VDC 11.6A of available current (or adjust to max then back it off just a hair if you don't have access to a DMM as 18 point 1 or 2 isn't going to hurt anything). Wall Wart and Brick power supplies are fixed voltage where as several of the Enclosed Power Supplies that one has to add a line wall cord as well as DC cord to can sometimes be adjusted which is the case here. The NES-200-15 has a variable DC out of 13.5 to 18VDC.

In Stock at this website:
Awesome.
Well I just bought this big guy: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01CS5G8J6/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
Which I can bring down to 18-19Volt.
Can't go wrong with the price either :)
Thanks a lot Transporter & Daniel. Im farely new to all this is all the help is greatly appreciated.
