I was wondering if you guys have ever noticed any popping coming out of the speakers when the amp is enabled, but not playing any music?
I have piCorePlayer running and LMS isnt playing any music, but I've got one channel on 1 AMP2 that pops when no music is playing. It seems really at random frequency.
Whats weird is that I have 2 in-ceiling speaker, one on each channel, and only one is doing it.

Yes, I dont think I've heard it popped when its playing.
I mean when it silence in the house and you are doing stuff.. then you hear a pop.. its quite noticeable.. but when music is playing I couldn't tell.
I wonder if it might be some strange PiCorePlayer issue. We heard from a similar case from another user. He wasn't able to reproduce the problem on a plain Raspian. Can you try to install a plain Raspbian and just boot it without playing back something. It would be good to see if the problem also happens with this.

What I find weird is I'm running 3x AMP2 + RPi3.. and this is the only one that its happening. Also.. its not both channels.. only one. Id say if id be a piCorePlayer issue, id be having the issue on both channels no?
This said, I can try it out and see if installing a plain Raspian causes the issue.
Keep note though, that it doesn't always happen.. if you let it standalone for a while then it randomly starts popping.
I've got one channel on 1 AMP2 too when stop playing. I use plain Raspbian but stretch.
I guess the reason is raspbian stretch quit pulseaudio.

At the moment we're in the process to analyze this. It seems to be a strange combination of inconsistent behavior in hardware and software. I'll come back when I know more.

I have exactly the same problem as Patrick but with Max2Play distribution.
I have Raspberry PI 3 B with a Hifiberry amp2 connected to him. The alimentation is 24V and 6.0A as indicated on the Hifiberry website.
My condiguration is Max2Play premium V2.44 and I configure M2P with the web interface by selecting the “Hifi Berry
Amp 2” in the selection list.
The sound is very good but like Patrick after a few time there is some pulsation noise with squeezelite and also with the plugin spotify connect too but I didn’t try with Shairport.
Can you help me ? This is very unpleasant.

We're not sure yet, seems to be a combination of both as this seems to happen only with specific software.

Hi there,
I can hear a plop sound on pauze and stop of tracks.The plop sound is not responding to volume control. Always the same volume.
Rpi3 and amp2 Kodi 17.6 and libre elec 8.2.0 (before 8.0.2) in both versions of libre elec there was the same issue.
Any advice/fix?

I can reploduce this with plain Raspbian + aplay. You mean "Plain Raspbian" is specific software?

@Yuusei, we can reproduce slight plops on start/stop, but that was not what the initial posting was about.
@herbert: That's a known behaviour. We'll look into a better mute control in the driver.

I already tried the tas5756 mute and volume set to 0. but I can't stop plops.
(writing page 0 reg 0x03 to 0x11 for mute / page 0 0x3d/0x3e, 0x00 to volume 0 w/ or wo/ DAPM)
I hope you can release the new improved driver.

Obviously, Badically, this kind of DACs/AMPs depends on the same pcm512x driver.
The difference is thin wrapper and hardware implementation.

Tried my amp2 on:
Tried both pi's with a Meanwell 18V and a standard 12V power supply. As soon as the music stops playing -> pops on 1 speaker, not both. Pops are independent of volume.
Another rpi with amp+ connected to same LMS -> no problems

The issue seems to be worst now.
I can hear the popping even while playing music.. and it popps very often now.

Same problem with RPi3 and AMP2. It started 3 days ago and the popping sound is continuous. When playing nothing it's there all the time and while playing music it happens when the volume in a song gets lower. I have sent an e-mail to the hifiberry support address.

You said you have multiple units but this only happens on one channel of the unit driving the ceiling speakers, is that correct? If yes, then have you changed AMP2s to see if the issue follows to the speakers of another setup and stops on the ceiling speakers? What I am asking is if you have attempted to isolate/split the problem in half. If by moving the AMP2 from the current RPi and the problem follows to the new speakers at the new location, it is most likely the AMP2. If the problem stays at the original location, it is time to try a different RPI at that location and again if the problem moves to the where you moved the RPi, then its the RPi. If the problem is still at the original location after changing out both the RPi and AMP2, then it is either the Power Supply or the location. By location, there is something in the location area that is causing the issue such as bad electrical outlet, hum on that phase, speaker lines running over an interference, etc. I had an audio client that thought he had put his expensive amp on an isolated circuit but kept getting a pop and then later a click through his speakers. It would come and go and never happen in the winter. Turns out the amp was on the same circuit as the thermostatically controlled attic fan and since his audio equipment was on the first floor, he never heard the attic fan come on above the second floor. The speakers popped when the fan kicked on and clicked when the fan shut off.

No I haven't tried a different one. Although, all 3 RPI are all within the same case all running off the same Power Supply running at 18V.
I could give it a try and see if the issue still happens.

In that case if it were me, I would disconnect the speaker wire from the setup that is popping and put the AMP2 off its RPi, disconnect another one of the AMP2s speakers wires, pull that second AMP2 and place it on the first RPi, then put the popping speaker wires on the freshly moved AMP2. Then have a listen, if it is STILL popping it can only be one of two things, it's the RPi or it is that speaker that is popping or something near the cabling or near the speaker causing it or allowing the speaker or speaker wire to act like a receiver for the popping to get to the speaker. If it has now stopped popping, it is the original wired AMP2 for sure.
It is good you have the extra AMP2s and RPis to help troubleshoot and split the problem in half. Once split in half, use the results to follow the problem and keep splitting it in half until the problem goes away. Last moved/removed component before the problem goes away is your trouble maker.

Ive changed the wire from the popping speaker to another AMP2.. and ive been listening to the radio for me than 2hours without any popping.
The amp2 that was causing popping... is playing also, without any pop on the other channel. So, I might try to insert another speaker in the channel that's popping and see if its still popping.

we received one of the boards with this problem a few days ago. We did intensive testing to find the root cause of this problem. We have identified a defective amplifier chip on this board. It seems that a small number of devices is effected by this. We have implemented additional testing in our factory and we think we can now detect this problem in production already. I think all people that reported this problem are already in contact with us. You will receive an mail from us in the next days.

Here to the popping has escaleted to randomly popping sounds when watching a movie or sometimes when there is nothing playing. Good to hear there will be a solution soon.
