HiFiBerry Amp+ Equaliser no effect

Hi,

i just got a Hi-FiBerry Amp+ and its working fine apart from the equaliser has absolutely no effect on the sound.  I put some of them on 100 and some on 0 and it makes absolutely no difference.

I'm running on the following:
    Raspberry Pi 3
    Raspbian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie) Linux 4.4.50-v7+ #970
    alsamixer

/etc/asound.conf:
    ctl.equal {
      type equal;
      controls "/home/pi/.alsaequal.bin"
    }

    pcm.plugequal {
      type equal;
      slave.pcm "plughw:0,0";
      controls "/home/pi/.alsaequal.bin"
    }

    pcm.equal {
      type plug;
      slave.pcm plugequal;
    }

 

aplay -l
    **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
    card 0: sndrpihifiberry [snd_rpi_hifiberry_amp], device 0: HifiBerry AMP HiFi tas5713-hifi-0 []
    Subdevices: 0/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

  You need to use "pcm.equal" as your sound output. If your application is still sending it's output to hw0, it won't be processed by alsaeq. Check the documentation of your application how to define the output device.

  Hi Daniel,

  Thanks for the quick response, yes that makes complete sense I didn't think of that.  How do I configure the OS to use that as the default?  I.E. Jessie with Pixel?  I'm not sure I can configure that for each application.

  I also followed this https://www.hifiberry.com/build/documentation/guide-adding-equalization-using-alsaeq/ and found that it has some problems.

  If /etc/asound.conf contains the following there is no sound at all in any app.
      pcm.!default {
        type plug
        slave.pcm plugequal;
      }

  I have tried the following with the above included, and I got no errors but also no sound:
      aplay /usr/share/scratch/Media/Sounds/Vocals/Singer1.wav -D equal
      aplay /usr/share/scratch/Media/Sounds/Vocals/Singer1.wav

  I have tried the following with the pcm.!default removed from /etc/asound.conf and I have sound in chromium and other apps, but I get the following errors:
      Playing WAVE '/usr/share/scratch/Media/Sounds/Vocals/Singer1.wav'

  I am also going in circles with this.  I can not get the eq to make any effect on the audio.  If I make enough adjustments to try and get it working, the raspberry will punish me with no audio at all and my only way to fix it is to reload the OS and start over.

  I have the same issue. After a week of trying I installed a fresh OSMC in RPI3 with HifiBerry Amp2. Trying a couple of things from some posts with the same problems but no luck. Changing equalizer has no effect.
  
  So far, I installed:

  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get install alsa-utils
  sudo apt-get install libasound2-plugin-equal -y
  
  when I run aplay -l I got this:

  **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
  card 0: sndrpihifiberry [snd_rpi_hifiberry_dacplus], device 0: HiFiBerry DAC+ HiFi pcm512x-hifi-0 []
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
  
  In /etc/asound.conf I have this:

  pcm.!default { 
   type plug 
   slave.pcm plugequal; 
  } 
  ctl.!default { 
   type hw card 0 
  } 
  ctl.equal { 
   type equal; 
  } 
  pcm.plugequal { 
   type equal; 
   slave.pcm "plughw:0,0"; 
  }
  pcm.equal {
   type plug;
   slave.pcm plugequal;
   }

  Also tried with this:

  pcm.!default {
  type hw card 0
  }
  ctl.!default {
  type hw card 0
  }

  Still not working.
  
  What I'm doing wrong?

  I think, Kodi always used the hardware device and won't care about any additional ALSA modules.Therefore, this might not work with Kodi at all.

  I have a fresh install with RPI4 and DAC2Pro. "alsamixer -D equal" confirms that equalizer device is created, but the sliders have no effect on music coming from mpd.
